Pet Parents Behaving Badly

December’s issue of Today’s Veterinary Business had the following headline, “You’re FIRED!” giving veterinarians permission to fire clients who are behaving badly.

I wholeheartedly agree.  You’re FIRED, to…

  • The irate ones.
  • The ones who don’t pay or who cancel payments.
  • The clients who constantly complain.
  • The ones who treat you and/or your employees poorly.

I’d never recommend enduring a bully-ish client — and wouldn’t shy away from sending a nightmare client on his or her way either — but…

Wouldn’t it be nice to work with ONLY the best pet parents?

I’ve long said that I work with the top 20% of pet owners on Long Island.  Not only are they passionate, but they seek value over cost, and are willing to do what it takes to provide their pet with optimal health and nutrition.  They respect my expertise and know that we are on the same team.

This, of course, does not happen by accident.   The way I’m niched and branded, the way I market through education, the way I choreograph my patients’  experience, and even the various income streams I’ve built into my practice all contribute to attracting — and retaining — only the BEST pet parents as clients.

All of this stuff works together,
and it’s what I call The Caring Vet Approach.

When you deliberately and consistently pre-qualify clients… when you deliberately orchestrate your marketing and your brand… you’ll find less PROBLEM clients and MORE amazing ones.

So, by all means…
fire the clients that need to be fired.
But, then remember:
YOU helped attract them to your practice.

So, what must change in your practice in order to get the attention — and the trust — of those pet parents who will be long-term, appreciative and appreciated clients?

Let me know if I can help!
